Fly fishingについて
Can beginners in fly fishing request a guide?
Of course, it's possible. Even if you're inexperienced in fly fishing, we will guide you step-by-step, from practicing casting to catching your first fish. If possible, we recommend booking at least two days for your guided tour. This way, you won't run out of time just as you're starting to get the hang of casting, and you can enjoy a more relaxed experience.
Do you offer rental for tackle and waders?
We offer rental of fly rods, reels, and basic boots and waders for a fee. Additionally, consumables such as flies, leaders, and tippets are also available for purchase separately. Please feel free to consult with us when making your reservation.
What kind of tackle should I prepare?
Single hand #4, #5, #6 (for rainbow trout, amemasu, etc.) or single hand #8, switch rod #6 (for ito) *Please contact us for more details.
This is my first time requesting a guide.
As a guide, I am always thinking about how to make sure my guests have fun. Should I offer advice to help catch fish, or should I quietly watch and let the guests enjoy their own way? It's something I always ponder. Each time, I realize that being a guide is truly about service. I will carefully assess what is best for you and provide full support, so please rest assured. Let's enjoy it together!
I would like to give my child a nature experience. Is that possible?
We can accommodate children from 3 years old. Let's create wonderful memories with activities such as river play, fishing for kids (bait fishing, tenkara), bug catching, and nature observation, similar to what my 2-year-old experiences regularly.
What about meals during the guided tour?
Full-day guides include lunch (a packed meal) and drinks (no additional cost). Breakfast and dinner are to be taken care of individually by guests.
Can you tell me the schedule for a full-day guided tour?
We will pick you up between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM at the pre-arranged hotel or meeting location. While traveling in the guide's car, we will listen to your preferences and suggest the plan for the day. Based on the guide's judgment, we may propose different fly patterns, fishing methods, or moving to different spots, but please feel free to let us know if you have any preferences at any time. We will make decisions with your safety as our top priority. The guide will finish around 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and we will drop you off at your accommodation or the location of your choice.
Wild life Photographyについて
I don't plan to do any photography, but can I still request a guide?
Of course, it’s possible. The guide also loves observing with their own eyes or using binoculars. In some cases, it’s possible to take photos with a smartphone, so feel free to ask if you need any assistance.
Is it okay to bring friends or family who are not participating in photography?
Of course, it's possible! The guide will ensure that both those who are photographing and those observing with binoculars can enjoy the experience.
Can you take me to tourist spots as well, not just for wildlife?
Of course, it's possible! One of the advantages of a private guide is that we can incorporate historical landmarks and natural spots into the itinerary. For example, I can guide you to Tokachi's Jewelry Ice, the Taushubetsu River Bridge, Ice Bubbles, and more.
Please tell me the equipment necessary for serious Ezo flying squirrel photography.
The Ezo flying squirrel is a nocturnal animal. The shooting opportunities are in the early morning and at dusk, so the environment will be dimly lit. Please prepare a lens with a wide aperture and a high-sensitivity camera. Specifically, a telephoto to medium telephoto lens (150mm–300mm, F2.8–F4.0), a camera body (high-quality amateur models from various camera manufacturers), and a sturdy tripod are necessary.
I would like to photograph a flying Ezo flying squirrel. Could you tell me what equipment I would need?
Shooting the Ezo flying squirrel in flight is a high-difficulty task. From takeoff to landing, I will explain the flight path, but frequent visits to the same nest will lead to success, so I recommend booking multiple guiding days. The period from January to February, when the squirrel's behavior is stable, is recommended. For equipment, you will need a camera body that performs well in low light and allows for continuous shooting, along with a lens in the 50mm–100mm range (F1.2–F1.8). While autofocus on flagship models from all manufacturers is excellent, currently, shooting in manual focus (pre-focusing) is the standard. *Since the conditions change each season, please feel free to contact us for more details.
I would like to give my child a nature experience. Is that possible?
Children from 6 years old are welcome. Since observing wildlife is best done in a quiet environment, the cooperation of adults is necessary. Let’s make it an enjoyable experience for the child with teamwork between the guide and the parents.
What about meals during the guided tour?
Full-day guides include lunch and drinks (no additional charges). Breakfast and dinner are to be taken individually. There may be occasions where we go to a restaurant, but if we wish to maximize time for photography, we may purchase food from a convenience store and eat in the car. Please note that, depending on the circumstances, there may be times when guests are expected to handle meals on their own.
Can you tell me the schedule for a full-day guided tour?
We will pick you up at the hotel or meeting location between 5:00 and 6:00 AM. During the drive, we will discuss your preferences and propose the plan for the day. After observing and photographing the Ezo Momonga in the early morning, we will return to the accommodation for a break from around 8:00 to 11:00 AM. After the break, we will guide you to observe other wildlife during the day, and in the evening, we will conduct a second Ezo Momonga photography session at dusk. The guide will end around 5:00 to 6:00 PM, and we will drop you off at your accommodation or the designated location.
